Manchester Pig save’s mission is to expose the suffering of farmed animals, help people become vegan and support building a global save movement. Manchester Pig Save’s primary aim is to bear witness to pigs sent to slaughter in Ashton. Bearing witness is being present in the face of injustice and trying to help. The vigils are peaceful and everyone is welcome to attend. At vigils, we hope to raise awareness of the suffering hidden by the meat and dairy industry by showing compassion to six month old pigs outside Tulip slaughterhouse. By looking into the eyes of these pigs, we see they are living, feeling individuals whom are often ignored by a speciesist society. Through local encounters and social media posts, we hope individuals will consider how their everyday choices impact sentient beings and inspire them to align their morals with their actions by becoming vegan. ‘We all say we love animals and we are against animal cruelty yet we pay people to confine, mutilate and slaughter animals, just because we like the way they taste.’ (James Aspey, 2015)
Veganism is a way of living that avoids unnecessarily exploiting animals. The number of vegans in Britain has increased by 360% in the last ten years, meaning eating cruelty free has never been easier with a vast range of tasty products accessible almost everywhere. We aim to inspire more people to be compassionate, be vegan and become more active in making the world a better place for all animals.
